Andrew Steps Back from Microbiology and Focuses on Retirement

Please join us in wishing a long, happy and healthy retirement to Andrew Fairclough, who leaves Rawwater on 7th October, 2021.

Previously employed as a Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University, Andrew joined our Engineering Division in 2013 to work as a project officer on our bismuth alloy plugging technologies for the oil & gas industry. With more than 30 years’ experience as a microbiologist and analytical chemist behind him, however, it wasn’t long before he transferred to our Scientific Division - the leaders in oilfield reservoir souring and simulation forecasting - to take responsibility for the analysis of outputs from our pressurised bioreactor suites.

“I’ll really miss the team at Rawwater,” comments Andrew. “I couldn’t wish to have worked with a nicer group of people. One thing’s for certain, however, I won’t miss the daily commute!”

Rawwater’s MD, Bob Eden, added: “Andrew has been a stalwart in the team. His attention to detail and precision has made him a role model to which the younger members of staff have aspired. And as an aside, we both share an interest in growing fruits and vegetables (Andrew being the more skilled), so I’ll stay in contact, for sure!”

Far from taking it easy in retirement, Andrew has lined up a whole range of projects to keep him busy. First and foremost, he plans to volunteer with Oldham-based ‘The Outdoor Collaborative’, a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) set up to advance education in photography and film-making.

“Photography is one of my greatest passions and, by working with The Outdoor Collaborative, I will be able to introduce photography and the career potential it offers to less advantaged young people in our region,” adds Andrew.

Sticking with the theme of photography, Andrew will also be taking paid commissions, producing a 2022 calendar – and adding to the fantastic images of architecture, flora, fauna, landscapes, seascapes and vintage vehicles that are already on his website.
